Mike Pence hosting “Workers for Trump” rally. Really?

Today, Mike Pence is coming to my hometown of Zanesville for a “Workers for Trump” rally. Really? Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and Ohio Republicans don’t support Ohio workers.

Whether it’s the 4,000 people who lost their jobs at the abandoned General Motors Lordstown facility or the thousands of Ohioans who are out of work because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trump-Pence administration’s “leadership” has failed working families in Ohio.

The way things are going, if Trump is in office another 4 years there won’t be any workers left.

I grew up in Zanesville. This community is home to some of the most hardworking families in Ohio. Mike Pence doesn’t speak for or represent our values as a community or a state. As a member of Congress and Governor of Indiana, Mike Pence betrayed working people every chance he had. As Vice President, he’s done the same.

I talk about being a queer candidate so often because I need LGBTQ+ representation, and the only thing that Mike Pence represents is a threat to my personal health and well-being, as well as the over 460,000 Ohioans who identify as LGBTQ+.

Mike Pence is notorious for his support of conversion therapy and has a record of opposing gay rights. Whether it’s his opposition to gay marriage, the bill he signed into law making it legal to discriminate against gay and transgender people, or his refusal to support nondiscrimination policies in the workplace, Mike Pence doesn’t deserve to serve as our Vice President.

Trump won our state in 2016 by lying to the hardworking people of Ohio, and he abandoned all of us the second he took office. He’s holding a “Workers for Trump” rally because no one would believe them if they held a “Trump for Workers” rally.

As State Representative, I’ll fight for workers and their families every single day I am in office to guarantee that if you work hard, you not only can get by, but you can get ahead in Ohio. Republicans from Columbus to Washington count on workers to support them in order to be elected, but workers can never count on Republicans to support them in office.

I’m running to represent Muskingum and Guernsey counties because working people in the 97th district need someone to count on. We need someone in Columbus fighting to bring better jobs to our community. We need someone who will protect workers from the manufacturing workers in Cambridge to the fast food employees on Maple Avenue. We need someone who will stand up and fight for racial and LGBTQ+ justice by passing nondiscrimination policies.

It’s clear that failed leadership from the White House on down has prevented our country and state from moving forward. It’s time for new leadership. Ohio deserves better. America deserves better.

We need to make sure Democratic candidates for the Ohio House like me take back the majority and guarantee Trump and Ohio Republicans lose this election. Our workers are counting on it.
